Let's define Social Media marketing. Easier said than done? Well, to get the ball rolling I've considered 6 senses, incorporating them into some of the basics of Social Media marketing.

Some you'll agree with, others you may not, but hopefully all will get you thinking.
1. Sense of Vision
Having a vision of where you want to be in a certain amount of time will give you direction. Without it, who knows where you'll end up! Having a big idea, even when some begin to criticize, is an asset. Be Imaginative, think Innovative ways of doing things, but most of all, be Passionate. No one else will show passion as much as you for what you do! This all begins with a vision.
2. Sense of Hearing
The extremely vital sense of listening. The days of just publishing information to customers are long gone. Social Media turns it around – customers and clients now have a strong voice to say what they think of you. Listen hard to what they have to say as this in turn will give you a boost in understanding their needs, interests, ideas etc. In the long run, it will help you be a better brand providing better products.
3. Sense of Taste
I once read that keeping a sense of taste is valuable in Social Media. Focus, intellect, and humour all contribute to going in the right direction. However, there is a fine line between humour and tasteless humour, focus and obsessiveness, intellect and being Mr Smarty pants. Keep cool and classy, keeping your sense of taste with two feet on the ground.
4. Sense of Timing
As the saying goes – timing is everything! Trends that are here today are often gone tomorrow, topics of this morning are 'tweeted' out by the evening so Social Media plays its role very tightly connected to timing. All the more reason for us never to let an opportunity to be relevant pass by. Why wait until tomorrow when you can start the conversation today? I'm a strong believer in being at the right place at the right time.
5. Sense of Touch
Importantly, engaging with your customers is how I will describe Touch. Social media marketing is all about conversations, community and engagement. Initial connections become relationships and then finally customers. The more people we engage with, the more chance we have to help each other – maybe not now or tomorrow but sometime in the future
6. Sense of Humour
Social Media is fundamentally about sharing. Things, ideas and concepts are there to go viral. To be sent out into the world for all to enjoy. Content which does this best is often humorous. Also keeping a sense of humour through tough times will help you connect more with like minded people.
